Minister Mandaviya Unveils SIDBI Scheme for Jan Aushadi Kendra Operators
In a significant move to boost the expansion of Jan Aushadi Kendras across the country, Health and Chemicals & Fertilisers Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced the initiation of a credit assistance scheme by SIDBI. The scheme aims to provide financial support to small operators of Jan Aushadi Kendras, facilitating their business commencement or expansion. Notably, the loans extended by SIDBI will be made available without the requirement of any collateral, easing the financial burden on the operators.
Minister Mandaviya emphasized that this initiative is pivotal in achieving the government's ambitious target of establishing 25,000 Janaushadhi Kendras by March 31, 2026. As of January 31, 2024, the country already boasts 10,624 functional Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs).
The credit guarantee for these loans, encompassing both working capital and term loans, will be facilitated by the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust For Micro And Small Enterprises (CGTMSE), ensuring a safety net for the operators.
Highlighting the positive impact of Jan Aushadi Kendras, it was revealed that in the fiscal year 2022-23, the Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) recorded sales amounting to Rs 1,235.95 crore. This resulted in substantial savings of approximately Rs 7,416 crore for citizens. These outlets offer a range of 1,965 generic drugs and 293 surgical items at affordable rates, contributing to accessible healthcare for the masses.
The launch of a dedicated website for the scheme further signifies the government's commitment to streamlining and promoting the Jan Aushadi Kendra network, fostering affordable healthcare solutions throughout the nation.
