Millennials Spends Most of the Time Online: Study

BENGALURU: Apart from Television and video game the other thing that captures the interest of the modern day adult is the internet. Knowledge, entertainment and network, is what is alluring people to browse continually through the internet. The latest Pew research survey confirms the significant growth in the %age of people using internet. The survey also concludes that the young generation aged between 18 and 34 are the ones spending more time online.
About 54 % of people across emerging and developing countries use internet, including 88 %% of South Koreans, 77% of Australians, 74 % of Israelis, and 72 % of Americans. Owning smartphone is one the fundamental reason for the drastic increase in the usage of internet. Although only 17 % of Indians own smartphone, it is expected to increase rapidly in the future due to its huge population.
The global network has become part of our daily life because it makes life simpler; it could be communication, research, education, financial transaction or recent updates or any information. With the introduction of broadband and 3G services, the speed and efficiency of internet service has also contributed in expanding its popularity.
Services like Netflix, YouTube has exerted great influence on the youngsters and has led them to put aside conventional television channels. Online gaming is another industry that has embraced the internet and grown into a multi-billion dollar business. Internet users in Europe have increased by more than 80% because of the online games. Across the 40 countries surveyed, a median of 76% of Internet users said that they were found online with their continual use of social networking sites. Interestingly, the survey showcased that social networking was most prevalent among online adults in Jordan (90% of Internet users), Indonesia (89%), the Philippines (88%), Venezuela (88%) and Turkey (88%). In comparison, only 62% of Indian Internet users (or smartphone owners) reported to be social networking sites. Among those, 69% respondents were millennial users, while only 48% were aged 35 and above.
