In a significant move to boost artificial intelligence (AI) innovation in India, Microsoft has joined hands with Yotta Data Services, the country’s leading sovereign cloud infrastructure and platform services provider. The partnership, announced on Wednesday, aims to accelerate AI adoption across India by collaborating with government agencies, startups, enterprises, IITs, and software developers, leveraging IndiaAI Mission participants to drive forward the nation’s AI ambitions.
Under this collaboration, Microsoft will integrate its AzureAI services with Yotta’s AI cloud platform, Shakti Cloud, enabling developers and organizations across sectors to access advanced AI capabilities. Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, highlighted the importance of the partnership, stating, “Our partnership with Yotta to power Shakti Cloud will help unlock AI innovation at scale. Microsoft is honoured to play its part in helping the country realise its AI ambitions through innovation that reflects India’s unique needs and priorities”.
India has already emerged as a top global market for AI adoption and return on investment. With over 500 proposals submitted to the IndiaAI Mission as of May this year, the collaboration seeks to support the development of indigenous AI models by providing Shakti Cloud customers with a rich ecosystem. The platform will offer access to a vast catalog of foundational large language models (LLMs) and smaller specialized models (SLMs) via Azure AI Foundry, enabling rapid development, deployment, and scaling of AI solutions.
Safety and responsibility remain core to this partnership, with built-in tools such as content filters, groundedness detection, and copyright protection designed to ensure secure AI deployment. Microsoft, known for its emphasis on trust, privacy, and security, aims to enable trustworthy AI adoption across India’s public and private sectors.
Sunil Gupta, Co-founder, CEO, and Managing Director of Yotta Data Services, underscored the significance of this alliance, describing it as a 'key step forward towards India’s AI self-reliance and digital transformation'. He emphasized the comprehensive support the partnership offers Indian enterprises in their journey toward AI excellence.
Earlier this year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced a collaboration with IndiaAI under Digital India Corporation to foster AI and emerging technology growth. The company also established an AI Centre of Excellence and AI Productivity Labs to promote inclusive development.
Together, Microsoft and Yotta Data Services aim to democratize access to cutting-edge AI technologies, helping India become an AI-first nation while ensuring the adoption is secure, responsible, and tailored to national priorities.
