Micron Joins Hands with IIT Delhi to Boost Semiconductor Research in India
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) has joined hands with Micron Technology, Inc., the world leader in memory and storage, to propel next-generation research in electronic materials and AI-driven semiconductor modelling. The partnership, announced on Tuesday, will close the gap between academic innovation and industrial applications in the fast-paced semiconductor industry.
Enabled by IIT Delhi's Corporate Relations Office, the collaboration is aimed at pushing research in electronic materials and creating AI-driven neural models. These models will predict and prevent fatigue and fracture in copper-based electronic devices, thus improving the reliability and efficiency of semiconductor devices.
Professor Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean of Corporate Relations, IIT Delhi, highlighted the significance of the collaboration, saying, "At IIT Delhi, we are dedicated to promoting industry-academia partnerships that catalyze impactful research and innovation. Our partnership with Micron Technology is an ideal combination of academic excellence and industrial know-how".
Vice President at Micron Technology, Gurtej S. Sandhu, pointed out that the collaborative effort will hasten advancements in AI-based modelling and crystal plasticity models, further cementing Micron's dedication to semiconductor technology progress.
This partnership is part of India's larger vision to become a global semiconductor innovation hub. Recent government statistics showed that India is home to approximately 20 percent of the world's semiconductor design talent. Additionally, the country's semiconductor demand, which is estimated at $45–50 billion currently, is expected to cross $100 billion by 2030.
By combining academic excellence and industry-driven innovation, the IIT Delhi–Micron partnership is poised to make significant contributions to India’s semiconductor landscape and global technological advancements.
