New Delhi: Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar will today take oath as a Rajya Sabha member in the chambers of RS Chairperson Hamid Ansari. According to information, Sachin will reach in the house along with his wife Dr Anjali and State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Shukla.

Sachin Tendulkar was nominated to the Upper House along with film actress Rekha and industrialist Anu Aga in April, but had to wait to take his oath until the end of IPL season 5. Earlier, the Delhi High Court refused to restrain cricketer Sachin Tendulkar from taking oath as a RS member on a PIL seeking quashing of his nomination to the Upper House. The court, however, asked the Centre to respond to the PIL by July 4, the next date of hearing.

World chess champion Viswanathan Anand on Sunday said that Sachin Tendulkar serving as Rajya Sabha member would be a big step in his life and wished the cricket legend to enjoy his new role. "I hope he (Tendulkar) enjoys his role and he is able to do it very well. It's a big step for him and I think he will enjoy it," Anand said. Tendulkar will take oath as a member of Rajya Sabha.

Anand said that he was not the one to lobby for himself to be conferred the Bharat Ratna, but thanked his well-wishers for thinking that he deserves the country's highest civilian award. "I simply can't imagine myself campaigning for that award. I am not gonna do that. What happens happens. I don't want to say anything that might influence anything," he said.
