Maruti Suzuki India Limited has achieved a remarkable milestone by surpassing the cumulative production mark of over 3 crore units, a feat accomplished in a record-breaking time of 40 years and 4 months. This achievement, which underscores the company's significant contribution to the automotive sector, is aligned with the Indian government's 'Make in India' initiative.
The production milestone encompasses vehicles manufactured across Maruti Suzuki's manufacturing facilities located in Gurugram, Manesar (Haryana), and Hansalpur (Gujarat). Notably, the Indian operations have emerged as the fastest among all Suzuki production bases globally, since the commencement of production in December 1983.
Maruti Suzuki's Haryana-based facilities have contributed over 2.68 crore vehicles to this milestone, while Suzuki Motor Gujarat, a wholly-owned subsidiary, has produced over 32 lakh vehicles. Among the vehicles that played a pivotal role in achieving this milestone, the iconic M800 stands out with over 29 lakh units. Other top contributors include popular models like Alto 800, Alto K10, Swift, Wagon R, Dzire, Omni, Baleno, Eeco, Brezza, and Ertiga.
Maintaining its leadership position in the domestic market since its inception, Maruti Suzuki attributes its success to a strong foundation built on relevant products, advanced technologies, an extensive sales and service network, and a robust supplier ecosystem. The company commenced exports in 1987 and currently contributes nearly 40% to the total vehicle exports from India.
Expressing gratitude to its customers for their unwavering support, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, emphasized the role of loyal customers in the company's journey since 1983. He credited the agile workforce and value chain partners for their continuous support in meeting customer needs and maximizing production.
Mr. Takeuchi reiterated the company's commitment to 'Make in India' and announced plans to invest further in increasing annual production capacity to 4 million units by FY 2030-31. This will involve setting up two new greenfield manufacturing plants with a capacity of 10 lakh units each in Kharkhoda, Haryana, and Gujarat. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki aims to expand its model range from the current 18 to 28 by FY 2030-31 to cater to growing customer demand and aspirations.
Presently, Maruti Suzuki sells 18 models through its NEXA, ARENA, and Commercial retail channels, catering to diverse customer preferences. Furthermore, the company exports its product range to nearly 100 countries worldwide, solidifying its position as a global automotive player.
