Markets Eye Pause as Nifty's Winning Streak Meets Fed Hurdle
  • Nifty50 may pause after 8-day rally as focus shifts to US Fed meeting (Sept 16-17) and India’s August inflation data.
  • Adani Power’s Bihar pact, Tata Tech’s Germany buyout, Apollo Hospitals’ big healthcare investment.
  • Asian markets trade lower; GIFT Nifty hints at cautious but slightly positive opening.
After eight consecutive strong sessions, the Indian stock market looks set for a cautious start today. The Nifty50, which has been on its longest winning streak in over a year, may finally take a breather as investors shift their attention to the US Federal Reserve’s upcoming policy meeting scheduled for September 16-17.
Early indicators reflected mixed sentiment. At 7:40 AM, GIFT Nifty was trading 32 points lower at 25,172, suggesting a weak opening. However, by 8:24 AM, it had reversed losses and was trading 17 points higher at 25,176, hinting at a slightly positive start.
Across Asia, most markets opened lower despite the MSCI Asia Pacific index hovering close to record highs. South Korea’s Kospi slipped 0.3% while Australia’s ASX 200 shed 0.22%. Japan’s markets remain shut today due to a national holiday.
Back home, market participants are awaiting the release of wholesale inflation data for August as well as fresh manufacturing output numbers. These figures are expected to give investors better cues on the domestic economy. On Friday, the Sensex had closed 356 points higher, while the Nifty gained 0.4% to end at 25,114.
