Maharashtra Home to Maximum Female Cops
Bangalore: It is no doubt that women have left a mark in all professions and give a tough competition to men. But now Maharashtra has earned an exceptional distinction of having the highest number of women in the police force in the country.
Recently, the Union minister of state for home RPN Singh revealed that Maharashtra has the highest number of women cops, as reported by Prafulla Marpakwar for TNN. The state may not have a single all-woman police station but it has achieved a great deal as it has the maximum number of women in the police force.
Of the total 1, 34,696 police personnel (armed and unarmed) in the state, 14.89 percent (20,062) are women. The state is followed by Chandigarh in the second place where 13.48 percent of police personnel are women. Tamil Nadu takes the third position with 10.57 percent women constituting its police force, while Himachal Pradesh has 9.68 percent women cops. The other states with a relatively high number of women in the police force are Rajasthan (7.45 percent), Delhi (7.13 percent), Orissa (7 percent) and Kerala (6.49 percent).
It is noted that Andhra Pradesh has only 2.27 percent women cops, while Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka have 2.18 percent, 3.49 percent, 3.93 percent and 4.23 percent women cops respectively.
Further, the maximum number of all-woman police stations are recorded to be in Tamil Nadu (196) followed by Uttar Pradesh (71), Bihar (40), Assam (32), Gujarat (30) and Rajasthan (29).
