Mahananda Jagtap and Sushma Shirsat, Sisters Who Manage an Auto Stand
BANGALORE: The women who roam around the street at the dark hours of night are not well appreciated in our society. With the recent happenings and the increased number of abductions and rapes it is scary for any family to let their women go out at night time. Although lack of safety for women is a major issue there are some women who fight the odds in order to earn their livings. The sisters from Thane are taking care of an auto stand by patrolling the streets whole nights for a cause, reports Indiatimes.
Mahananda Jagtap, 35 and Sushma Shirsat, 45 are sisters who were leading a normal middle class life until a year back in last July their younger brother Raju was burnt alive. Raju owned an auto stand which provided income for their family. The sisters were in need for money in order to get justice for their late brother thus decided to quit their minimal paying jobs and started looking after the auto stand.
The auto stand has almost 90 autos parked in it each night at a cost of
10 per each which make them earn around a sum of
30, 000 a month. But most of this money goes in the case hearing. The job is as challenging as it looks; there are thieves and goons who try to harm them by scratching the autos with blades or by entering in vulgar conversations. But the bold women are always alert with chili powder, wooden stick and a torch.
