Literacy Scheme ULLAS-Mela Inaugurated by Secretary Education

Two days ‘State Level ULLAS-Mela’ was inaugurated by The Secretary Education (Shri L. Kumar-IAS) in the Auditorium of Govt. Girls Sr. Sec. School, Port Blair.  The Director of Education and other Senior Officials of the Department were also present on this event.

Chief Guest was welcomed by The State Nodal Officer-ULLAS, Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakramand also Dy. Director (Edn. For All), Shri R. K. Singh has and briefed about the ULLAS-NILP Scheme &purpose of organizing this Mela, while Shri Aditya Kumar Jha, DANICS, Director of Education addressed the gathering and briefed on the significance of ULLAS-NILP Scheme initiated by the Govt. of India.

ULLAS stands for the acronym of; Understanding of Lifelong Learning for All in Society, which is a centrally sponsored scheme towards ‘Adult Literacy’ introduced by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India to literate above 15-Years of aged individuals who have never gone to schools or discontinued their schooling because to some or other reasons. In order to boost-up the mission of attaining 100% Literacy in A&N Islands, this 1st -State Level ULLAS-Mela has been planned by the Education department on the lines of MoE, GOI which will conclude tomorrow on 19th July-2024.

The Chief Guest was welcomed by a Band Troop followed by a Welcome Song from GSSS School- Line in Port Blair in total 170 partaken including 30 officials in these 02- days ULLAS-Mela from different parts of this UT, right from Diglipur to Campbell Bay. The inaugural programme was concluded with the vote of thank given by Mr. Raja Ram, Programme Coordinator-ULLAS, Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram.

The Chief Guest and other distinguished guests have intermingled with the entire partakers including ‘neo-literates and ‘Volunteer Teachers’ came from several parts of the Islands. In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest has valued the sweats of all stakeholders of this mission. The Chief Guest Secretary (Edn.) and the Director of Education has also planted saplings under ' Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' mission in the Girls School Campus.
