Legendary Folk Singer Sharda Sinha Passes Away at 72
Popular folk singer Sharda Sinha, died due to complications arising out of cancer. She was 72 years old.A few days back, she was admitted to AIIMS in New Delhi due to illness. Her health deteriorated yesterday when she was put on ventilator.
Folk Singer Sharda Sinha's Son Anshuman Sinha through a post on social networking website has furnished this information.
He said, "All of you will always pray and love for the mother. Chhathi Maiya has called mother to her. She is no more with us".
72-year-old Sharda Sinha, who has been rewarded with Padma Bhushan, is famous for Maithili and Bhojpuri songs. Her popular songs include 'Vivaah Geet' and 'Chhath Geet'. She was also rewarded with Padma Shri and Padma Vibhushan for music contribution.
Sharda Sinha was born on 1st October 1952, in Bihar's Samastipur, to a family related to music. In 1980, she started her career from All India Radio and Doordarshan and came to the limelight by virtue of her powerful voice and emotional performance.
Chhath songs made Sharda Sinha rule the hearts of common people of Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh.
Within a few days, the social media streams overflowed with condolence messages after news broke out concerning the death of the folk singer.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, taking on social media handle said, "Extremely pained by the passing of Shrimati Sharda Sinha ji. A multi-talented folk singer who had made Bhojpuri language reach the masses. People will remember her songs for a long time. This influential voice has gone out of this world of folk music. I offer my condolence in this hour of grief to her bereaved family and fans. Om Shanti!", The demise of legendary folk singer, Padma Bhushan Dr Sharda Sinha ji is quite sad and irreparable loss for the whole music world", he said.
Utter Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, "Humble tribute to her! Through her excellent traditional singing, she has presented many folk languages in an outstanding way including Maithili, Bhojpuri and folk culture bringing a respect on the national level, I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give a place to the departed soul in his feet and give strength to her bereaved family and fans to bear this immense loss. Om peace!", he added.
