Oracle Corporation’s Co-founder and Chairman, Larry Ellison, has overtaken tech giants Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos to become the world’s second richest person. This significant leap in wealth comes on the heels of a strong earnings report that propelled Oracle’s stock to new highs.
According to Forbes' real-time billionaire rankings updated on June 15, Ellison’s net worth soared to $258.8 billion, second only to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who leads with $410.8 billion. Just two months ago, Ellison ranked fourth on Forbes’ annual billionaire list with a net worth of $192 billion a $66.8 billion increase in only eight weeks.
The jump is largely attributed to Oracle’s strong financial results reported on June 13. The tech giant posted earnings of $1.70 per share on revenue of $15.9 billion, sending shares up to $200 apiece.
Oracle is currently a major player in the U.S. government's AI strategy, contributing to Project Stargate an initiative led by President Donald Trump, in collaboration with OpenAI and SoftBank. Ellison has been outspoken about AI’s potential, calling it a tool for ushering in a new era of constant monitoring and behavior improvement through technology.
At 80, Ellison remains actively involved as Oracle’s Chairman and CTO, having founded the company in 1977 and served as CEO until 2014. Notably, he led Oracle’s $28.3 billion acquisition of Cerner in 2021.
Following Ellison, Zuckerberg now ranks third with $235.7 billion, Bezos fourth at $226.8 billion, and Warren Buffett fifth with $152.1 billion.
