Kerala to Conduct Statewide Mock Civil Defence Drills at 4 PM
Kerala will hold statewide mock civil defence drills on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, in all 14 districts, as per instructions from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The drills are being held in the wake of escalating tensions between Pakistan and India following the Pahalgam terror attack. The drills will start at 4 PM and will test emergency preparedness and response mechanisms in hospitals, schools, government offices, and other places.
As per a notification issued by the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA), the mock drill will begin at 4 PM, with the alert siren ringing three times for 30 seconds. The real drill will be conducted between 4:02 PM and 4:29 PM in those locations where the siren can be heard, as well as in locations where it cannot be heard.

As per guidelines of the Centre, premises without sirens can utilize announcement systems in religious premises to inform the public. A siren signaling "Safe" will be heard for 30 seconds at 4:28 PM. The State Disaster Management Authority will control the sirens directly.
The KSDMA has pointed out that the drill should be done safely, without risking lives. Coordination with the Fire Force is necessary to deploy Civil Defence and Aapda Mitra volunteers. The agency also has given pre-blackout instructions, advising people on the right response to the blackout.
