Justice K. Vinod Chandran took oath as judge of the Supreme Court of India. Prior to this elevation, Justice Chandran was the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court. He was appointed to that position on March 23, 2023. His judicial career started with his appointment as a judge of the Kerala High Court on November 8, 2011.
With over 11 years of experience as a High Court judge and more than a year as Chief Justice, he brings significant expertise across various legal fields.
The Collegium, in its recommendation resolution, pointed out that Justice Chandran is an all-India senior and ranks 13 in the combined seniority list of High Court judges. At that time, Kerala did not have any representation at the Supreme Court level, making his elevation notable. Justice Chandran ranks number 1 in the seniority list of judges from Kerala High Courts.
The SC now has 33 judges, one short of its sanctioned strength of 34, following the appointment of Justice Chandran. His elevation is being seen as a very worthwhile addition to the apex court, bringing valuable judicial experience and regional representation.
