JSW MG Motor India Becomes the First OEM in India
JSW MG Motor India, in collaboration with PPG Asian Paints, has introduced a revolutionary Green Pretreatment line in its paint shop, marking a significant milestone as the first Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in India to adopt this technology. This initiative leverages ambient temperature phosphate technology, operating at 38°C instead of the conventional 42-50°C, leading to an estimated annual reduction of 1,800 tons of carbon emissions.
The adoption of this ambient temperature phosphate technology in the Pretreatment Electrodeposition (PT-ED) line eliminates the need for heating, resulting in substantial fuel savings and a drastic drop in emissions. Additionally, this innovation streamlines operations and reduces maintenance requirements, further enhancing process efficiency.
“This new PT-ED line showcases the spirit of innovation, allowing us to enhance our green manufacturing process vision and set a new industry benchmark for sustainable practices. Through strong partnerships like the one with PPG Asian Paints and our shared vision for a sustainable future, we've significantly reduced carbon emissions since 2022", said Biju Balendran, Deputy Managing Director, JSW MG Motor India.
The collaboration between JSW MG Motor India and PPG Asian Paints has a history of success in sustainable practices. In 2022, JSW MG Motor India implemented the ULTRAX Degreaser, a liquid alkaline degreasing cleaner developed by PPG Asian Paints, coupled with High Throw Low Cure Cathodic Electro Coating Paint, resulting in a CO2 reduction of 787 tons annually.
“Our partnership with MG underscores our commitment to sustainability and innovation. Through our joint efforts and shared expertise, we are taking a significant step forward in promoting energy conservation, and we are delighted to be a part of the brand's sustainability initiative”, mentioned Jitendra Kalra, CEO, PPG Asian Paints.
Additional CO2 reductions were achieved with the implementation of Low-Temperature Phosphate (VERSABOND), contributing to a reduction of 325 tons per annum, and High Throw Low Cure Cathodic Electro Coating Paint, accounting for approximately 388 tons per annum. These combined efforts have led to an impressive 47% reduction in carbon emissions for JSW MG Motor India, solidifying its position as a leader in sustainable automotive manufacturing.
