A leading American scientist says India and the US are considering exciting joint science and technology projects to expand their relationship further. According to Dr. Sethuraman Panchanathan, Director of the National Science Foundation (NSF), both countries are delving into various joint projects under the guidance of their respective leadership.

In an interview with PTI, Dr. Panchanathan described the partnership between the US and India as pivotal for the Biden-Harris administration and Congress, highlighting bipartisan support for the alliance between two major democracies.

Reflecting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's historic State Visit to Washington DC last year, Dr. Panchanathan noted that it commenced with a visit to the NSF headquarters, where Prime Minister Modi engaged with the scientific community and young minds in science.

Dr. Panchanathan outlined several collaborative efforts between the NSF and Indian counterparts, particularly in digital technology and biotechnology. He mentioned ongoing discussions with the Ministry of Information Technology and the Department of Biotechnology to foster innovation in bioeconomy and biomanufacturing.

The initiatives align with President Biden's executive order on Bioeconomy and Biomanufacturing, indicating mutual interest from both nations. Dr. Panchanathan emphasized the importance of such collaborations in driving innovation and economic growth.

Regarding India's progress in science and technology, Dr. Panchanathan acknowledged a significant uptick in entrepreneurial ventures and research endeavors over the past decade. Dr. Panchanathan also praised India's establishment of the National Research Foundation (NRF) and its efforts to synergize investments in scientific research.
