Joe Biden Sworn in as 46th President of the United States, Kamala Harris Took Oath as New VP

The world witnessed a real chaos few days back and the transfer of power was not very peaceful in the world’s oldest constitutional republic, however the transfer did happen on Wednesday on the West Front of the US Capitol, as Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. (Joe Biden) was sworn in as the 46th President of the US. Joe became the president vowing a new day for the US after four years of tumult under Donald Trump who in an extraordinary final act snubbed the inauguration. Joe, putting his hand on a family Bible, repeated after Chief Justice John Roberts the presidential oath that he will “preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”. His deputy, Kamala Harris, the daughter of immigrants from Jamaica and India, also took oath as the new Vice President, becoming the first woman, Black person, and first Asian-American to serve in the position.

Joe vowed to defeat political extremism and domestic terror in his first speech as US president. In his first remarks, Joe said, “Here we stand days after a riotous mob thought they could silence the will of the people. It will not happen, not today, not tomorrow, and not ever.” He pledged to be honest with the country as it continues to confront difficulties, saying “leaders had an obligation to defend the truth and defeat the lies”.

Joe plans to start his new administration with orders to restore the US to the Paris climate accord and the World Health Organization. He will sign 17 orders and actions, hours after being sworn in as US leader to break from policies of departing President Donald Trump and set new paths on immigration, the environment, fighting COVID-19 and the economy.
