Jan Dhan, Pension Scheme To Help Women In Big Way: Modi
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and the pension scheme announced in the union budget could help women in a "big way".
President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for gender equity and decried violence against women as the government said it has initiated one-stop crisis centres that will provide assistance to women who face violence in any form.
Interacting with the recipients of the 'Stree Shakti Puraskar' and 'Nari Shakti Puraskar' for the year 2014 on the occasion of International Women's Day, he said: "These schemes could help women in a big way, and civil society could play a key role in communicating their benefits to the people who needed them most."
The awardees shared their experiences and sources of inspiration with Modi.
Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi was also present on the occasion.
