Is India Keen in Promoting MSMEs?

The government of India is vigorously working on import substitution to promote micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) and promote local manufacturing.

"We are working very vigorously on import substitution not in a negative sense, but so that we have our own manufacturing and services by which we can serve our domestic market," says Ram Mohan Mishra, Additional Secretary of MSME Ministry.

While speaking at an awards event organized by SME Street, Ram said that MSMEs have a bright future. As a measure to promote local manufacturers, the MSME ministry has requested airlines to offer honey sachets as a sweetener instead of sugar for beverages. Ram further stated Khadi and village industries have the capacity to make Rs 5 lakh crore turnover in the next five years.
