Is Bookmybai.Com Objectifying Maids?
BANGALORE: One of the latest startup and e-commerce site www.bookmybai.com, has given a platform for maid recruitment. According to ones requirements choosing a maid of a specific category can also ensured, reports Live Mint.
On a bold front, the company was tied to controversial news with their ad, “Diamonds are useless! (Raising eyebrows) Gift your wife a maid.”
Anupam Sinhal Co-founder of Bookmybai.com responding to the criticism said, “The campaign was extremely light-hearted and we don’t mean to stereotype or discriminate women. We would never dream of doing that since women are the reason we exist. 99pct of domestic helps are women. It completely depends on the mindset of the person reading the advertisement.”
The daring statement not only managed to catch criticism but also managed to successfully send across their message and services.
Furthermore, apart from ‘advance payment’ that is not made necessary, people can select their made according to a preferential region or religion and not just the mandatory qualifications and experience.
On the other hand, “gifting” a person to ones wife may not come across as respectable to any kind of profession or individual and Bookmybai being well aware of the audience requirements in Bombay and delhi will limit its attention to providing only what is in demands.
The country’s social perception is in desperate need to acknowledge this profession and the individual. They tirelessly serve our every requirement and yet they are undervalued and poorly paid. Treat them equal they are but humans and are deserving of equality. While Bookmybai may be useful to many of us, they still encourage the ideology of people by providing them with options to choose their maids according to creed, region etc. recently, the startup Bookmybai.com raised
1 crore from around from 50k Ventures.
