International Women's Day (IWD), observed on March 8th every year, is a worldwide performance celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political progress of women. It is also a call to action to accelerate gender parity globally. The day is observed through numerous events and activities celebrating the contributions of women and raising issues related to challenges still faced in the struggle for equality.
This year 2025, Gujarat State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s event on International Women’s Day 2025 will be held in Navsari district, Gujarat, with an all-women police contingent handling security, a historic first for India. Over 2,300 women officers, led by senior IPS Officer Nipuna Torawane, will ensure smooth arrangements as Modi addresses the 'Lakhpati Didi Sammelan', promoting women’s empowerment and financial independence. This move highlights the progressive vision of the state and its determination to commemorate women's leadership and security on this special day.
The Unstoppable Force of Women Leaders
In the dynamic economic landscape of India, women entrepreneurs overcome barriers, destroy myths, and rewrite success. They are the 'starpreneurs' who outshine others through their individual set of brains, toil, determination, and perseverance. They start ventures on the back of ambition and imagination, which go on to become great successes with many of them turning into unicorns while empowering numerous others on the way.
In a world where leadership used to wear a largely male face, women are now entering the limelight, redefining the game, and crafting a more equitable future. Women leadership is not a fad but a revolutionary movement that is reshaping sectors, making policy, and fueling economic development. Whether in boardrooms or at the grassroots level, women introduce new ideas, new approaches, and an unrelenting passion for creating a brighter tomorrow.
In the words of trailblazing leader Indra Nooyi, Former CEO of PepsiCo, says, " Leadership is hard to define and good leadership even harder. But if you can get people to follow you to the ends of the earth, you are a great leader”. And as the rise of women leaders continues, it’s clear that they are not just leading they are leading us all toward a brighter, more inclusive world.
So, what to call them? Should they be seen as daughters, mothers, sisters, wives, leaders, or entrepreneurs? Or perhaps as warriors of change, balancing strength and compassion? They are not bound by one title but embrace countless roles, shaping society with grace and resilience. Every woman is a force of endless possibilities.
