US diplomats are visiting India in the coming week to discuss how the US and India can extend their support for a secure, accessible, and open Indo-Pacific region and maritime security concerns

According to the state department, a team of senior US officials will visit India next week to attend the US-India 2+2 Intersessional meeting and maritime security dialogue. Donald Lu, the assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian affairs, will lead the delegation visiting India from September 5 to 8. The primary objective of the meeting is to strengthen the US-India comprehensive global strategic partnership.

Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs, Camille Dawson, for a Quad Senior Officials Meeting, and Department of Defence Assistant Secretary for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, Ely Ratner, will join Donald Lu for the US-India 2+2 Intersessional Meeting and Maritime Security Dialogue.

The state department stated that the delegation would likely meet with senior Indian officials to discuss how the US and India can expand cooperation to support a secure, connected, resilient, prosperous, free and open Indo-Pacific region where human rights are respected. The countries have been discussing the need to ensure a thriving Indo-Pacific despite increasing military concerns.

Additionally, Lu will attend an event under the US-India alliance for women's economic empowerment with female entrepreneurs. The event aims to enhance economic security through women’s meaningful participation in the workforce. He will also participate in a roundtable discussion with senior business leaders regarding how India can realise its full economic potential over the next 25 years to emerge as a central hub in global supply chains.

The US deputy secretary of the Treasury, Wally Adeyemo, visited India last month and discussed with Indian policymakers methods to jointly address global challenges such as food insecurity and high energy prices. The US Treasury Department issued a statement in which Adeyemo discussed with his counterparts how to reduce energy prices for consumers and businesses in India, the US, and around the world. Moreover, he also emphasised the significance of further strengthening the already deep US-India relationship through platforms like the Quad and the Indo-Pacific economic framework.
