This initiative, previously outlined by US President Biden and Prime Minister Modi, marks a significant collaborative effort between the two nations in innovation and technology.

In a notable development, the United States and India have initiated a pivotal tech partnership through the Innovation Handshake, remarked Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo. She emphasized the significance of fortifying the interconnected innovation ecosystems of the two nations. Raimondo expressed eagerness to advance this collaboration with Minister Goyal, aiming to enhance the commercial relationship between the U.S. and India. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance innovation ecosystems through this initiative marks a pivotal stride in advancing the India-US partnership.

The announcement has laid the groundwork for two upcoming meetings for Innovation Handshake, scheduled for early 2024. These gatherings will take place in India and the United States. These events encompass an investment forum designed to assist startup companies from both nations bring their innovative concepts and products to market. Additionally, a hackathon is scheduled in Silicon Valley, where startups from the US and India will present their ideas and technologies to address global economic challenges.

The Innovation Handshake, conceptualized within the framework of the US-India Commercial exchange, aims to foster collaboration between the governments of the United States and India alongside venture capital leaders, entrepreneurs, and various industry stakeholders. The initiative seeks to unlock possibilities and tackle challenges within the priority sectors outlined in the US-India initiative for Critical and Emerging Technology (iCET) through a series of discussions. It seeks to establish links between the vibrant startup ecosystems of India and the US. The primary objectives include addressing regulatory challenges hindering cooperation and fostering innovation and job creation, especially in emerging technologies.
