India-US Alliance Ensures Open and Inclusive Indo-Pacific Security

The India-US 2+2 dialogue underscores commitment to rules-based global order, emphasizing defense and tech cooperation. Diplomatic efforts aim for growth, connectivity, and a secure Indo-Pacific, reflecting a shared vision.

In a significant stride towards fortifying the defense alliance, the United States and India have taken noteworthy steps to enhance their collaborations, with a shared commitment to upholding a resilient and rules-based international order. The US Ambassador to India underscored this commitment, emphasizing the joint efforts to safeguard a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.

Addressing an event in the national capital, the US ambassador Garcetti remarked that the joint statement from the 2+2 dialogue reflects the determination of both countries to promote a rules-based international order, highlighting the role of the Quad and other global metrics in addressing critical issues. The ministers engaged in conversations about the humanitarian repercussions of conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Garcetti expressed anticipation for increased visitor numbers, highlighting the prospects of substantial investments by US private sector companies in Indian technology. He underscored the significance of government-to-government discussions, particularly in space, defense, and production. Notably, pointed out the efforts made in strengthening the major defense partnership, citing initiatives like the  US-India roadmap in industrial cooperation and defense as catalysts for growth.

Stressing the necessity for New Delhi and Washington to deepen their conversation on AI, the US envoy highlighted the potential for collaboration in emerging domains beyond the traditional focus on weapons development. Underscoring the operational facet of military cooperation, he asserted its pivotal role alongside equipment. Garcetti urged the two nations to explore ways to enhance science and technology partnerships, channeling technology for global benefits rather than harm. 

Highlighting ongoing diplomatic efforts, he revealed discussions between the US administration and the Indian government to augment staff at consulates and expedite visa processing. The ambassador expressed optimism about the trajectory of India-US relations, underlining the multifaceted nature of collaboration, encompassing defense and technology and diplomatic initiatives aimed at facilitating people-to-people connections.

During the recent India-US 2+2 ministerial dialogue, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh from India actively engaged with their US counterparts, Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. As a crucial platform for high-level discussions, the dialogue allowed leaders from both nations to explore critical bilateral and global issues, with a specific emphasis on unfolding developments in the Indo-Pacific region.

The dialogue showcased their dedication to a rules-based international order and collaboration on global challenges. Garcetti highlights the deepening defense partnership, technological cooperation, and the imperative for sustained dialogue on emerging domains like Artificial Intelligence. As diplomatic efforts intensify, the nations aspire to foster growth, connectivity, and well-being. The future promises increased bilateral engagements, reflecting a shared vision for a secure and harmonious Indo-Pacific landscape.
