Bangalore: Certifying its fast- quantified military reinforcement, China's defense budget is beyond double of India's allotment for its Armed Forces.
In an answer to a question in the Lok Sabha on Monday, Defence Minister AK Anthony said that China conferred $78.63 billion on its armed force budget last year, whereas the defense budget for India in the year 2010-2011 was $33.20 billion.
When questioned if India would increase its defence budget due to increased spending by the neighboring countries, Antony said, "Budgetary provisions for Services are made on basis of an assessment of their requirement for force modernization, development of critical combat capabilities and overall national policy." He further added, keeping these factors in view, the allocation for defense services has been rising steadily from
1,05,600 crore in 2008-09 to
1,64,415 crore ($37 billion) for 2011-12."
Speaking of other neighboring countries like Pakistan, the defense spending has increased by almost double in three years from 2008 to 2009. Pakistan spent $3.43 bilion in 2008, which increased to $6.40 billion in 2010.
At the same time, while answering another query, MM Pallam Raju, Minister of State for defense announced that HAL has apprehended an order to export seven ALH Dhruvus to Ecuador in global bidding. He said, "It is the process of setting up a regional maintenance centre to cover after sales services, technical and logistic support in the entire Latin region."
