Indians Who Brought Glory To The Country At Olympics 2012

Saina Nehwal:

Saina Nehwal gave India its maiden medal in Olympic Games badminton when her Chinese opponent withdrew from the bronze medal contest after injuring her knee. The bronze won by Saina, who had lost her hopes of winning a gold after losing to world no. 1 Chinese player Yihan Wang, is the second by an Indian woman in Olympic history, the previous one being gained by weightlifter Karnam Malleswari at the 2000 Sydney Games.

The ace shuttler earned India its third medal at the London Games, under unexpected circumstances as her opponent and world number two Xin Wang of China conceded the third-place play off match due to a knee injury after winning the first game.

Saina is regarded as the prolific Indian Badminton player and arguably the best female Indian badminton player the country have ever produced. Her biggest achievement was reaching the quarter final round at the London Olympics and thereby winning a bronze for the country. She has also been awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award for her brilliant performance in international tournaments.
