FREMONT, CA: YMCA of the USA (Y-USA) has appointed Siva Balu in the position of its Vice President and Chief Information Officer. Balu's new responsibilities include rethinking and reorganizing the work of Y-USA's information technology strategy to meet the evolving needs of Y-USA and YMCAs throughout the country.
 
Balu has 20 years of healthcare technology experience in leadership roles for Blue Cross Blue Shield, most recently leading the Enterprise Information Technology team at the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA). His previous job responsibilities leading all aspects of IT – including architecture, big data, business intelligence and data analytics, application and product development, information security, infrastructure, project management, digital, and operations. Balu has created multiple, highly scalable innovative solutions that meet the needs of members and patients all over the country in all communities.

Balu acquired a bachelor's degree in electronics and communication engineering from Bharathiar University in India, a master's in business administration from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management and executive master's degree from MIT-Sloan School of Management in Innovation, Strategy and Artificial Intelligence as well as additional certifications in Disruptive Strategy and Negotiation Mastery from Harvard Business School Online. In his spare time, Siva contributes to several charities including Special Olympics and food banks, listens to podcasts, and runs 100-mile ultra-marathons. Siva recently joined the Board of Directors of Sarah's Inn, a non-profit that offers comprehensive services to families affected by domestic violence.
