Indian Products Rank Second on U.S. Refusal List
Bangalore: The precision taken by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) while importing products has created a rough landing for many Indian products on their list. The decisions taken by USFDA in approving products for import is noted to be more stringent this year. It has led to many products being listed on the refusal list due to unfavorable ingredients or content when manufactured.
The USFDA is accountable for promoting public health and protecting them through regulation and managing food safety, prescriptions, over- the-counter pharmaceutical drugs and other medical products.
The Operational and Administrative System for Import Support (OASIS) issued the monthly refusal list of the USFDA in October 2012. On this list the Indian food product were subjected to 109 refusals, just after Chinese products, which showed the highest number of refusals. The total number of refusals accounted for China in October was 186, making it first on the list.
