Indian Food Awareness Gains Recognition in U.S.

BENGALURU: Food is treated equal to god in countries like India, which have great traditional values but the undeniable fact is that over 100 million people are on the verge of death due improper supply of food. However, the recent reports say that, in India, food worth 56 Cr.  is wasted in luxurious marriages and other ceremonies each year, which is enough to feed the hungry population in the country. Hence a boy from Coimbatore, along with his friends is working on a project to accumulate the leftover foods from all around the city and distributing it to the deprives and his work is now globally recognized, as reported by the indiatimes.

Padmanaban Gopalan is the prime lad behind the project for which he is now conferred with $1000, by a US based NGO, Pollination Project. Gopalan was announced as the winner based on the public voting in which he won over a margin of 4000 votes.

Besides Padmanaban Gopalan’s food project, Citizen Drone Project by Mark Devries from New York, a Prison Arts program by Maria Maneos from Eagleville and Lady Liberty project from Samantha N Ngcolomba from Johannesburg were also considered to be prominent contestants but Gopaln surpassed the competitors in the votings.

Founder and Director of Pollination Project, Ari Nessel said "Out of 150 applications, we selected four outstanding finalists working on human rights, social justice, animal advocacy, environment, arts activism, and women's rights,"

The overwhelmed Gopalan is planning to feed numerous starving people around the city, on account of his Zero Hunger Hour campaign, on the world hunger day (October 16.)
