Indian Electronics Industry Witnesses 154% Growth in Hiring and Skilling
The electronics industry in India has witnessed a staggering 154 percent surge in hiring and skilling activities during the last financial year, marking a remarkable growth trajectory from March 2023 to March this year. According to a report by Quess Corp Ltd, a leading workforce management solutions provider, the telecom sector spearheaded this growth, accounting for 64 percent of the hiring, closely trailed by the lighting and automotive sectors.
One of the notable trends observed in this surge is the significant deployment of women across various roles within the electronics manufacturing domain. The report revealed that women now constitute a substantial 78 percent of the industry's workforce, with increasing representation in roles such as operators, quality assurance professionals, and testers.
Geographically, Tamil Nadu emerged as the frontrunner among states, commanding a significant 33 percent share of electronics hiring demand. This was followed by Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana, reflecting the widespread growth and demand across multiple regions.
Lohit Bhatia, President of Workforce Management at Quess Corp, underscored the industry's growth trajectory, fueled by innovation and transformation. He highlighted industry projections indicating the creation of 1 million jobs by 2025-2026, with the market size expected to reach a substantial $400 billion by 2025. Bhatia attributed this growth not only to increasing consumer demand but also to government initiatives such as 'Make in India' and the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.
The surge in women's employment within the electronics manufacturing sector can be attributed to several factors. The nature of the work, characterized by intricate assembly and precise handling of small parts, aligns well with women's skills in dexterity and attention to detail. Moreover, women demonstrate a strong ability to learn quickly and adapt, enabling them to excel in fast-paced production settings, as noted in the report.
The research also highlighted the demand for key roles such as electronic engineers, instrumental engineers, and electronic design engineers. Salaries for these roles range from Rs 18,000 to Rs 32,000 per month on average.
