Indian American Educators in Apoliticals List of 100 Most Influential Academics in Government

Apolitical government body released the 100 most prominent academics list featuring many Indian American leaders and others of Indian origin.

FREMONT CA: Apolitical is a global government program that helps public servants find the ideas, experts, and partners they need to solve society's toughest challenges. It recently released its "100 Most Influential Academics in Government" list, including numerous Indian-American leaders in academia. The London-based organization aims to help governments work better for individuals globally.

The list recognizes work that has influenced policymaking by providing insights into policy problems, contributing creative ideas and solutions, or adding informative and appropriate data. According to a press release, each contender on the list is dedicated to enhancing government operations, and their research has already made an impact. Healing from Covid-19; Social Policy; Policy Processes and Approaches, Employment and Skills; and Climate and Sustainability are the five policy areas that academics are currently working in.

Indian Americans Featured This Year

  • Manoj Mohanan is an Associate Professor at Duke University's Sanford School of Public Policy, as well as a member of the Department of Economics and the Duke Global Health Institute. Mohanan's research is particularly concerned with the economics of health and development and health policy.
  • Gita Gopinath, a John Zwaanstra Professor of International Studies and Economics at Harvard, currently serves as the International Monetary Fund's Chief Economist.
  • Karthik Muralidharan, Tata Chancellor's Professor of Economics at the University of California, San Diego, whose research covers development, public, and labor economics, focusing on enhancing the efficacy of government expenditure in the social sector, such as education, health, and social protection programs.
  • Anup Malani is a University of Chicago Law School professor, a Pritzker School of Medicine professor, and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research in Boston. According to the release, Malani led a modeling team that established a forecasting model and method of adaptive control during the COVID pandemic in India.
