India Strengthens Telecom, AI, and Emerging Tech Ties with the UK
India and the UK have enhanced cooperation in telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and space technology after India's Telecom Secretary, Dr. Neeraj Mittal, visited the UK.
During his visit, Mittal held meetings with UK Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) officials to explore 5G, 6G, and digital security advancements. A UK-India Telecom Roundtable was conducted with major industry players like BT, Ericsson, Sonic Labs, and UK Telecom Labs with an emphasis on future collaborations in emerging technologies.
One of the main deliverables of the talks was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sonic Labs and India's Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT). The deal is intended to drive Open RAN-related policy and technical programs, such as 5G Open RAN and AI integration in 4G/5G networks.
The two countries also agreed to work together on telecom cybersecurity, telecom AI, mobile data utilization for infrastructure planning, and 6G global standards (IMT 2030) contribution. The collaboration will also include mutual testing lab recognition, Digital Twins, quantum communications, and submarine cable security.
India's 4G/5G telecom stack indigenous technology and space communications technology, such as TN-NTN with the Bharat 6G Alliance, will also be fostered, strengthening the India-UK technology relationship further.
