India Spends Millions on Kasab than Britain on Assange

Bangalore: India has spent crores of rupees on the security of the lone surviving terrorist of 26/11, Ajmal Kasab. The amount spent out of the public money has cost India much more than what Britain is spending on WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

The WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been holed up in the Ecuadoran embassy in London since claiming asylum for a while now in a bid to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he faces questioning over alleged sex crimes. While Ecuador granted Assange asylum on August 16 this year, Britain denied him safe passage out of the country, and police are guarding the embassy in case he tries to escape. Britain spends a whopping 11,000 pounds a day to ensure that Assange does not flee the country.

If the costs continued at the average of 11,000 pounds a day, then the total would presently be over 1.1 million pounds.

A 250,000 pounds mobile command station on the doorstep of the building has been set up and officers guard the embassy. Officers from every London region, specialist police units and undercover squads have been brought in to join the stake out.

On the other hand, an enormous 26 crore of public money has already been spent for Kasab’s security, and other necessities. Protecting the 26/11 convict has so far cost the Maharashtra government more than 26 crore. Kasab is imprisoned at central Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail since November 2008. His per day cost would amount to about 1, 80,000.
