India, Mauritania to Sign MoU on Visa Exemption and more
In the presence of President Droupadi Murmu and her Mauritanian counterpart Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, India signed and exchanged several Memoranda of Understanding with Mauritania. It was agreements set to strengthen cooperation between both countries in all sectors.
During her three-nation tour, on the second leg, President Droupadi Murmu, Indian delegation led talks with the Mauritanian President at his residence in Nouakchott.
This was the first state visit by an Indian head of state to the African nation. Bilateral relations were discussed as leaders signed four MoUs pertaining to training of diplomats, cultural exchange, visa exemption, and Foreign Office consultations.
The President said earlier today while speaking to the Indian community in Nouakchott that there were many likenesses between the cultures of Mauritania and India, she said addressing the media.
Clothing, particularly women's dressing is similar, as are respect for the ancestors, strong family ties, and the presence of joint families, she said.She stated that this is one of the historic visit because it will set a basis for more bilateral cooperation to look into the future.
The President mentioned that India has potential towards supporting development in areas such as agriculture, health education, skill development, and infrastructure.
The President had a courtesy call from Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug to further expand the diplomatic discourse.
She was warmly welcomed after her arrival in Mauritania by President Ghazouani after she concluded her state visit in Algeria. Having spent her last day in Algeria, the President took time to tour some important historical site including the ancient Roman city of Tipasa, the Royal Mausoleum of Mauretania, and Hamma Garden as a way of showing Algerian rich cultural heritage.
She took India for a three-nation tour to Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi and gave special significance to India's relations with African nations.
