India Has 66,000 Pending Cases of Violence on Women



Bangalore: India has been fighting for centuries for the cause of equality for women in order to establish social justice. The stories related to women and injustice is a recurring episode in the country. The Delhi Rape case has created a milieu which has brought forth many cases related to the prejudice faced by the women in the country. Awakened by the nation-wide protests against violence over women an in-depth survey was conducted by the state law and judiciary department. It was found in the survey that 65,749 such cases recorded for atrocities against women were pending in magistrate courts as on December 31, 2012, reported Prafulla Marpakwar for TNN.

On the subject of nationwide outrage over Delhi gang-rape case, Congress President Sonia Gandhi asked the party men to make the gender issues ‘the heart of our political activity.’ She also said that the ‘very disturbing trends’ against women and children must wake the party to act and bring justice in the country.

In her opening remarks at the party's Chintan Shivir, she said, “I must say with the greatest anguish and pain that discrimination against the girl child continues. Atrocities on women, both in urban and rural India, are a blot on our collective conscience and a matter of great shame,” as reported by PTI.
