India begins new phase of Coronavirus vaccination for the elderly
India on Monday, initiated a new phase of Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccination for the elderly above 60 years of age, and people between 45 and 59 years of age with comorbidities.
The phase is likely to cover close to 270 million beneficiaries, and self-registration have opened on Monday from 9am onwards on the upgraded Co-WIN website, and will remian open till 3pm for same-day appointments.
All persons who are aged, 60 years or above as of January 1, 2021 are eligible to register for the vaccination’s shots. In addition, all persons who are aged, or will attain the age of, 45 years to 59 years as on January 1, 2021, and have any of the government-specified 20 comorbidities will also be eligible to take the shot.
Registrations opened at 9am on Monday and citizens will be able to register and book an appointment for vaccination, anytime and anywhere, using the CoWIN 2.0 portal or through other IT applications such as Aarogya Setu for instance.
Several ministers are eligible for the shot are in the process of finalizing the schedule for their vaccination as well. “A few ministers who are above 45 and have co-morbidities will travel to their respective constituencies to get the first shot,” revealed a person aware of the details.
