India and the US Launch Working Group to Strengthen Their Ties on Education and Skill Development

India and the US hold a mutual partnership in various integrated sectors, where the education space is no exception, as both regions have established a mutually beneficial working group.      

The United States and India have launched a working group on education and skill development mutually to boost the people-to-people relationship. The associated meeting was conducted in a hybrid format, with the first meeting being hosted by Donald Lu, Assistant Secretary Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs with the Ministry of Education’s Joint Secretary of International Cooperation, Neeta Prasad. The working group will maneuver partnerships between educational institutions in these regions while exchanging definite perspectives on skill development and vocational education, certification, and recognition.

The meeting also aimed for an extended engagement with the private sector. Participants of the working group have underlined the need to expand the educational linkages, featuring varied collaborations on the promotion of workforce development. Student and faculty exchanges are at the heart of knowledge, strengthening the partnership between the nations. Members of India have highlighted the soaring demand for expeditious visa issuance, reaffirming their ongoing efforts on the same.   

Mr. Lu encircled the significance of these education connections for shared economic prosperity, as these nations hold robust people-to-people ties in large part to the growing network of educational exchanges. Announced on the sidelines of the 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue that was held previously, the decision for an India-US Working Group and Skill development has gained a huge welcome in both countries. It holds a critical focus on skilling and vocational education, certification, recognition, and matchmaking between the US and Indian higher educational institutions, in addition to engaging with the private sector for organic synergy.
