- CG Semi’s OSAT facility in Sanand to produce India’s first semiconductor chip soon.
- Project set up with Rs 7,600 crore investment and 50% fiscal support under ISM.
- Part of India’s 10 approved semiconductor projects worth Rs1.6 lakh crore across 6 states
Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the advanced Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility of CG Semi Private Limited in Sanand, Gujarat, marking a key milestone in India’s semiconductor mission.
He announced that the country’s first domestically produced semiconductor chip will 'soon' be dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “CG Power’s pilot line was inaugurated today, and very soon, the chip produced from this pilot line will be dedicated to the nation,” Vaishnaw said.
CG Power and Industrial Solutions Ltd has set up the OSAT unit in collaboration with Renesas Electronics America Inc. and Stars Microelectronics (Thailand) Public Co. Ltd, with an investment of about Rs 7,600 crore. The project will benefit from 50% fiscal support on a pari-passu basis under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).

Highlighting progress across other projects, Vaishnaw noted that Micron’s plant, Kaynes’ unit, and Tata Electronics’ fab at Dholera are all moving forward at 'a very good pace'. In total, 10 semiconductor projects worth around Rs 1.6 lakh crore have been approved across six states under ISM.
He also underlined ISM’s focus on addressing the projected global shortfall of one million semiconductor professionals by 2032. Over 270 Indian universities have been given access to advanced chip design tools, enabling students to log 1.2 million design hours in 2025 alone, with 17 institutions already designing chips.
