Independence Day 2024: What Does Freedom Mean to You?
We all know the saga of independence in India is one of remarkable transformation and enduring spirit. As our country celebrates 77 years of independence, it is a proud moment for us to look back upon the outstanding journey, marked by sacrifice, resilience, and progress. Our anthem, 'Nation First, Always First', captures the spirit that has driven us to transcend challenges not only by conserving our inheritance but also through paving the way for progress. From the fight of our ancestors to be free from any colonization to our time, becoming a superpower of the world, our transformation from the ‘beggar’ nation into the land of opportunity and innovation is truly amazing. It manifests on our economic reform, scientific development, and our footprints on the global arena. That is, to do so we must also press ahead amidst the intransigent factors of social inequities and environmental concerns. Embracing the mantra of 'The Nation First, Always First' points toward the fact that all these challenges are known to everyone, and we all have to work in collaboration for a sustainable future.
How Did India Make History?
As India celebrates its Independence Day, the nation proudly reflects on its remarkable achievements, including the stupendous show by India at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. With a team of 117 athletes supported by 118 staff and 22 officials, India ended up with six medals yet another feat in Olympic history. This campaign concluded with a final ranking of 71st out of 206 nations and was marked by Manu Bhaker's historic double bronze in shooting to become the first Indian to do so in single Games since Independence.
Triumphs of the nation ranged across sports, starting with Neeraj Chopra's silver medalist performance in the javelin throw and bronze in men's field hockey. The Indian men's field hockey team took their second consecutive bronze, while Aman Sehrawat's bronze in freestyle wrestling established him as the youngest Indian to take home an Olympic medal. For the first time ever, India House was inaugurated in Paris by the Reliance Foundation and the Indian Olympic Association, providing a vibrant space to celebrate Indian athletes and culture.

Also, the journey from past to present reflects itself in gargantuan strides in technology and space exploration. The digital age has been fraught with a number of changes, which have transmogrified businesses and industries with advancements considered a figment of imagination. This transformation is essentially founded on technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and the Internet of Things, which opened unprecedented paths for innovation and efficiency. Rapid developments in 5G technology, metaverse, blockchain, UPI, robotics, and digital twin quickened the pace of progress and carried the country toward the bright digital frontier.
These space achievements have come to underscore the rising technological capabilities of the country. The Indian Space Research Organisation has been of immense help in space research across the world, building international relationships and fuelling economic progress. From that humble beginning in 1963 when the first rocket of ISRO was wheeled to the launchpad on a bicycle, India moved to the forefront in the world space scenario. The recent success of missions such as Aditya-L1 and Gaganyaan, with strategic international partnerships by ISRO, underlines how far India has come in this remarkable journey. Another example of how technological and entrepreneurial synergy shapes the future is the growth of Silicon Valley from an engineering community to one of the top entrepreneurial spots in the world.
