HPE Launches Made-in-India Servers, Aims to Boost Local Sourcing
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has initiated the widespread deployment of its domestically manufactured servers in India. Produced at VVDN Technologies' facility in Manesar, which has recently commenced full operations, these HPE servers are poised to address diverse industry needs, handling various applications and workloads. VVDN, an original design manufacturer, has established a comprehensive surface-mount technology (SMT) line specifically for crafting server motherboards for HPE within the country.
Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) relies on surface mount technology (SMT) to produce server motherboards featuring essential high-value components such as processors, memory modules, disks, and drives. “The PCBA capability in India creates significant local value enhancement for the servers beyond just assembly and testing. This further strengthens the company’s ability to serve its government and public sector customers by being a trusted and preferred supplier”, read a joint statement from HPE and VVDN.
In July of the previous year, HPE unveiled its initiative to manufacture servers in India through a collaboration with VVDN Technologies. The goal was to produce approximately $1 billion worth of high-volume servers within the initial five years of production.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the government and the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY). Their vision in introducing the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) programme has been instrumental in encouraging original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) like us to establish a manufacturing footprint in India”, said Som Satsangi, senior vice president and managing director, HPE India. “HPE remains committed to driving innovation, fostering local talent, and contributing to India’s economic growth”, he added.
The company additionally expressed its commitment to enhancing local production by utilizing VVDN's backward integration capabilities and expanding its range of India-manufactured products. With its largest workforce outside the United States based in India, HPE is actively exploring avenues to deepen localization efforts. The company's Mahadevapura campus in Bengaluru stands as the world's largest, housing over 4,000 scientists, engineers, and research teams contributing to its extensive research and development initiatives.
