Historic Inauguration of TATA’s C-295 Aircraft Complex at Vadodara

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will formally launch the TATA Aircraft Complex in Vadodara. This marks India's first private sector Final Assembly Line for military aircraft. There, 56 C-295 aircraft will be assembled 16 directly from Airbus and the remaining 40 at TATA's facility. This falls perfectly in line with the 'Make in India' initiative. It represents a huge step forward in the country's aerospace capabilities.

One of Ratan Tata's key projects the TATA Aircraft Complex for manufacturing C-295 aircraft will take flight as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart Pedro Sanchez will inaugurate the facility shortly. The two leaders took on a 2.5 km roadshow from the airport to the Tata facility in Vadodara, which is the first private sector Final Assembly Line (FAL) for military aircraft in India.

Under the C-295 project, a total of 56 aircraft will be built, out of which 16 are being delivered directly by the aircraft manufacturing company Airbus from Spain. The remaining 40 aircraft will be built at the TATA Aircraft Complex at the TATA Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) Campus.

"It will involve the full development of a complete ecosystem from the manufacture to assembly, test and qualification, to delivery and maintenance of the complete lifecycle of the aircraft", an official statement from PM Modi's office said.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh termed the C-295 project as a 'very special day' for the aeronautical industry in India. He pointed out that the concept of such a system being fully produced locally is the first comprehensive production of military aircraft entirely to be undertaken by any company in India and said this program is going to take Indian growth aviation ecosystem several notches above.

Under the leadership of Ratan Tata, Tata Group signed a contract with Airbus to produce and assemble C-295 military aircraft at the Vadodara Final Assembly Line (FAL), the foundation of which was laid by Prime Minister Modi in October 2022. Noel Tata's successor as the new Chairman of Tata Trusts, following his half-brother, who passed away, will complete the first aircraft of C-295 that is due in 2026.
