Gujarat, Now a Hub for Surrogacy
Bangalore: Once a taboo, surrogacy is now socially accepted in the country. The rise in mothers willing to rent their womb for others, who are unable to conceive and would like to enjoy motherhood, is being appreciated by many.
Anand, a small district in Gujarat, also known as the ‘Milk Capital’ of India is now gaining popularity as it has become a hub for surrogate mothers, reports Gayatri Jayaraman of India Today. The narrow road Station Road is crowded with men seated beneath the banyan tree waiting for their wives to complete their medical testsat the Sat Kaival Hospital and Akanksha Infertility Clinic.
The Akanksha clinic is run by Dr. Nayana and her husband Hitesh; they recently announced the birth of 680th baby through surrogacy at their clinic. Many Indians and foreigners from over 29 Countries visit this place looking for surrogates. This place gained popularity after it was featured in Oprah Winfrey TV show.
On August 5th Surrogate No 500 successfully delivered the 680th child in the clinic. The doctors showed her the photo of her child after four days, but she was unable to identify the baby. Many mothers who deliver babies do not even see them; they take up surrogacy to save the lives of their family members.
