Greek PM Mitsotakis Emphasizes India-Greece Strategic Partnership
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, currently on a two-day state visit to India, was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Accompanied by his wife, Mareva Grabowski-Mitsotakis, he was warmly received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Expressing the importance of the strategic partnership between the two countries, Mitsotakis looks forward to bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Modi, covering a range of topics including political consultations, strategic partnership, and economic collaboration.
Mitsotakis emphasized the privilege of his official state visit, reciprocating Prime Minister Modi's visit to Greece a few months ago. He expressed eagerness for discussions that would foster economic ties between the two nations. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also met with the Greek Prime Minister, valuing Mitsotakis' commitment to enhancing India-Greece ties.
The visit holds special significance as Mitsotakis is the Chief Guest and Keynote Speaker at the three-day Raisina Dialogue 2024, which commenced today. The Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis, in New Delhi for the Raisina Dialogue, discussed strengthening India-Greece and India-Europe cooperation with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi and Mitsotakis are expected to hold bilateral discussions, and a lunch banquet will be hosted in honor of the Greek dignitary. This visit marks the first bilateral Head of State or Head of Government level visit from Greece to India after 15 years. Notably, India-Greece relations were elevated to a 'Strategic Partnership' during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Greece in August 2023. Mitsotakis is also scheduled to visit Mumbai before returning to Athens.
