Government's Clean Fuel Campaign to Get Delayed

BANGALORE: In the recent times the Union government has announced various possible parameters which can be used for reducing the air pollution rate in the country. An important measure is of implementing strict vehicular emission standards. But this plan seems to get delayed due to the unavailability of suitable fuel which will support the clean technology, reports THE HINDU.

In the current scenario the government is all set to postpone their plans of implementation of Euro-V norm to 2020 and Euro-VI norms to 2022, but the Ministry also stated that the final decision will be taken within a few days. In a meeting which included officials from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Petroleum, Heavy Industries and Environment the Ministry of petroleum officials addressed their issue of not being able to comply with the earlier delaines.

The officials present at the meeting also stated that, “We are awaiting a response from the Petroleum Ministry. The officials wanted the BS-V (Bharat Stage) norms to be postponed to 2020 as they said they are not ready to supply these fuels. We may merge the separate deadlines earlier proposed for new and existing vehicles. The BS-V norms will be effective from 2020 for all vehicles and BS-VI norms from 2022. In view of deteriorating air quality, it is agreed to take on a more challenging task of compressing the timelines,”
