Government Launches Aadhaar Good Governance Portal to Simplify Service Access
The Government of India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) launched the Aadhaar Good Governance portal, a step that marks the simplification of the process for approval of Aadhaar authentication requests. The step reflects the Government's continued initiative towards enhancing citizen-centric service delivery and ease of living through tech-enabled governance.
The portal was launched by Shri S. Krishnan, MeitY Secretary, in a function hosted by Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar, UIDAI CEO, and other senior functionaries from MeitY and the National Informatics Centre (NIC). The launch was occasioned by the government's vision for using Aadhaar for bringing transparency, efficiency, and accessibility to public services.
The release is in line with the recently announced Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025. The rules are intended to extend the Aadhaar authentication ambit so that government and non-government agencies can use these services for public interest purposes. The amendment will help facilitate innovation, foster knowledge sharing, and enhance the ease of living for crores of people across the nation.
In his speech, Shri Krishnan underlined the portal's ability to spur the integration of new Aadhaar authentication use cases. "This platform will be used as a catalyst for spreading good governance practices. With ongoing system enhancements, we are committed to improving the functionality and efficiency of Aadhaar in public service delivery", he added.
Shri Bhuvnesh Kumar highlighted Aadhaar’s critical role in powering India’s digital economy. “Aadhaar has been authenticated over 100 billion times in the past decade, proving its reliability as a trusted digital identity. The new portal will simplify the process for entities seeking authentication approvals, fostering greater efficiency and responsiveness in service delivery”, he stated.
The Aadhaar Good Governance portal will be a one-stop-shop for service providers, providing comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) to help entities navigate the authentication approval process. The portal will also have face authentication capabilities, providing an additional layer of flexibility and convenience for users in customer-facing applications.
The amendment permits Aadhaar authentication across different industries, such as healthcare, hospitality, education, e-commerce, and credit rating agencies. For instance, schools can utilize Aadhaar for examination registration, while companies can use the platform for e-KYC verification and employee attendance management. This broadening is likely to increase trusted transactions between service providers and consumers, enhancing the overall service experience.
To make sure the portal is in line with user requirements, MeitY held stakeholder consultations during April and May 2023, taking feedback from industry stakeholders, public representatives, and citizens. This collaborative process enabled the development of a platform that is both inclusive and easy to use, affirming the government's commitment to inclusivity and transparency in digital governance.
Aadhaar, one of the world's most trusted digital identities, will be able to contribute even more to public service innovation with this portal launch. Simplifying the authentication process and cutting down approval time, the Aadhaar Good Governance portal will give power to citizens and service providers alike, taking India a step closer towards its vision of technology-enabled seamless governance.
As the country is increasingly going digital, this effort represents an important step in establishing a more interconnected, inclusive, and effective system for all the stakeholders involved. The Aadhaar Good Governance portal is more than a technology advancement; it represents India's desire to use innovation for public good and be a global example for digital identity management and delivery of services.
