Government Deciding On Striking Off Rich Households from LPG Subsidy

BANGALORE:  After Swatch Bharth and Make in India Modi government is in an attempt to succeed in another campaign which is now being the talk of the town. The government is looking in to taking a decision on cutting down the rich households out of LPG subsidy schemes so that it will help the poor families to get accessibility to kitchen fuel, reports Times Of India.

The venture will also ensure the social responsibility of public money. At a panel discussion during the Delhi Conclave which was organized by finance ministry the oil minister, Dharmendra Pradhan put across the point. He stated that, "I humbly submit that the time has come for the government, the finance ministry can determine, that people in a particular income bracket should not be given the subsidy, The question as to who should get subsidy should be debated. Subsidy should not be given to people in a particular income bracket,"

Earlier this year, PM Modi had appealed to people through various mediums to give up cooking gas subsidy so that poor people will get the luxury of using it. According to the government report almost 42.50 lakhs had agreed to this which resulted in government being able to succeed in adding almost 25 lakh new customers.

In 2011 the UPA government also came up with a similar idea which suggested anyone who owns a car, two-wheeler, and house or figured in the income tax list to pay market price for cooking gas. But the scheme faced strong opposition within the congress and alliance parties.
