Government Calls All-Party Meet for Smooth Budget Session
Ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament, the Centre has called an all-party meeting on Thursday to ensure smooth proceedings. The session will commence on January 31 with President Droupadi Murmu addressing both Houses of Parliament.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would present the Economic Survey on 1 February; the Union Budget would be on 1st February. There would be consideration of the Motion of Thanks to the President Address in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the 3 February, and respective discussions are taken on 3, 4, and 6 February and a reply, provisionally to be taken is on 6 February.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju said the Budget Session would be conducted in two parts. The first phase will run from January 31 to February 13 and the second from March 10 to April 4. He asked opposition leaders to cooperate with constructive discussions as interruptions damage the reputation of Parliament.
Speaking to previous sessions, he said, "In the last two sessions, there was some 'hungama' which created a poor image of Parliament. I appeal to opposition leaders to participate constructively in the discussions."
He is quite optimistic about the Budget, expecting Sitharaman to present a balanced and comprehensive financial plan. With crucial economic policies on the agenda, the government aims to facilitate meaningful deliberations in the upcoming session.
