Google Map to Decide Auto Fares in Bangalore

autoBENGALURU: Bangalore Traffic Police along with an NGO are about to put an end to the harassment faced by the passengers during high auto fare negotiation or meter tampering. The plan is to set 18 small sectors in the form of pre-fixed centers within the city limits. The commuters will pay as what is fixed at the center and that will be calculated on the basis of the Google Maps, reports Bangalore Mirror.

The pre-fixed centers are expected to avail the passengers with benefits. Suppose if the auto driver demands for excess fare, passengers can file a complaint in the center. After investigation, once the driver is found guilty, steps will be taken to terminate his driving license.

According to B Dayananda, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security), “The pre-fixed auto centers will work in a different way. The application for the project has been developed in such a way that fare fixation will be done in an accurate manner using Google Maps. The center will also call back passengers once they reach the destination to know whether the driver had demanded excess fare. Action will be initiated against drivers violating rules.”

The passengers need not pay a single penny to the centers in order to book an auto. These centers will be under the supervision of the traffic police. Plans have been made to open the centers at critical areas like Koramangala, Jayanagar, Vijaynagar, Indiranagar, HSR Layout, Madivala, Electronics City, Whitefield, Yeaswanthpur and Rajajinagar. The chairman of the Regional Transport Authority has agreed for this mission.

This system will hugely help the outsiders coming from distant cities for jobs and studies. Even tourists will be benefitted from this endeavor. The auto drivers, although, are not welcoming this approach and are quite convinced that this plan will not work, citing the example of the pre paid center launched few years back. They also doubt it because of the unavailability of particular auto stands.
