Girish Tanti Named Chair of GWEC India for Wind Energy Expansion
Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Energy, has been elected as the Chair of Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) India, after previously serving as Vice-Chair since April. In this new role, Tanti will lead GWEC India's efforts in collaboration with national and state governments to enhance India's wind energy sector. GWEC highlighted the significance of establishing policy frameworks and initiatives to optimize India's potential in both onshore and offshore wind energy.
India currently ranks as the world's fourth-largest wind market, boasting 46 GW of onshore capacity and positioned as a key global hub for wind energy manufacturing. Tanti's strategic leadership within GWEC is expected to stimulate further growth and innovation in the industry.
Ben Backwell, CEO of GWEC, emphasized India's expansive opportunities in onshore and offshore wind sectors, underscoring GWEC's commitment to partnering with various stakeholders for ongoing expansion. Headquartered in Belgium, GWEC represents a membership exceeding 1,500 companies and institutions across over 80 countries, including manufacturers, developers, suppliers, research entities, and renewable energy associations crucial to advancing wind energy globally.
Tanti's election underscores Suzlon's ongoing influence and dedication to advancing renewable energy in India and worldwide. His leadership will be pivotal in driving policy discussions and fostering collaborations necessary to sustain India's progress in the global wind energy landscape.
