The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has reached a significant milestone by enabling the recruitment of more than 1 million manpower resources for government departments during the current fiscal year 2024-25. This achievement is a testament to GeM's central role in bringing transparency, compliance, and efficiency to public procurement.
GeM's manpower outsourcing facility allows government buyers to easily recruit outsourced professionals using its online portal. With a database of more than 33,000 service providers, buyers can engage manpower on various parameters like minimum wages and fixed compensation. The portal supports varied jobs like security personnel, horticulture personnel, multi-tasking personnel, data entry operators, and facility management personnel.
Referring to the accomplishment, GeM CEO Shri Ajay Bhadoo said, "GeM has utilized digital strengths to become a one-stop-shop for government procurement. Our manpower outsourcing service streamlines hiring processes while maintaining stringent labour compliance through our exhaustive Service Level Agreement".
The major highlights of GeM's manpower outsourcing service are:
- Hiring flexibility based on skills, experience, and educational qualifications
- Specialized role categories designed to suit government requirements
- Transparency in pricing mechanisms, providing for minimum wage and fixed compensation
- Detailed Service Level Agreement (SLA) ensuring legal compliance and clearly defined responsibilities
Adherence to labour laws by GeM ensures that all transactions are statutorily compliant, giving government buyers confidence when using outsourced manpower.
Since its launch in 2016, GeM has developed into a end-to-end digital procurement platform providing value-for-money solutions for government procurement. The platform began with goods and in FY 2019-20 diversified into services like hiring of manpower, cab services, and security services. In the last five years, GeM's portfolio has increased to more than 330 services, ranging from cutting-edge ones like drone services, AR/VR solutions, cloud services, and cybersecurity.
The recruitment of 1 million manpower resources in FY 2024-25 highlights GeM's increasing usage across government departments, solidifying its position in catalyzing digital transformation in public procurement.
